Dallas Charter School Grows International Presence with Spain’s Largest Teaching Program

International Leadership of Texas will now provide students and teachers an opportunity to travel abroad in Spain and China

DALLAS – International Leadership of Texas (ILTexas), a free, Dallas-based public charter school announces an international partnership with Magister (MELC), Spain’s largest teacher training center in Madrid. The partnership will allow teachers located in Spain and Texas to exchange in respective countries to teach their native languages, take classes, and collaborate as research groups to create scientific publications about foreign language teaching.

“We are excited about the first phase of our partnership with MELC that will further expand ILTexas’ international presence,” said ILTexas’ Chief Academic Officer Dr. Laura Carrasco. “With an ILTexas Spain to come in the next phase, we look forward to our students and teachers exchanging in respective countries learning about the importance of international diplomacy and language acquisition”

To meet the current language demand in schools, ILTexas provides an authentic cultural experience that requires them to master the English, Spanish and Chinese languages, provides students with native language teachers and the opportunity to study abroad. This past May, ILTexas commemorated its first graduation class of 58, where all students acquired proficiencies in the three languages and were accepted into higher educational institutions.

“We are excited to keep the momentum of our growth high as we continue to explore opportunities that expands our presence domestically and internationally,” shares ILTexas Superintendent Eddie Conger. “It is imperative that we have the right partnerships in place to enhance our cultural immersion curriculum, further preparing our students as international leaders.”

Currently, ILTexas hosts 94 international teachers from Spain and China for the 2016-2017 school year. It is through the partnership with MELC that ILTexas will have the opportunity to host a projected 161 international teachers to support the 29,000 students expected to attend ILTexas’ schools in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Houston next school year.

About International Leadership of Texas - Global

International Leadership of Texas - Global, a separate but supporting non-profit for the ILTexas Charter School District, expands education in an innovative way through international relations. It is the goal of ILTexas to have schools in both China and Spain which combines the ILTexas curriculum and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills curriculum (TEKS), the same college-preparatory curriculum as their peers in Texas. This will allow American, Chinese, and Spanish students and teachers to transition between their respective countries with no interruption to their school curriculum. ILTexas opens its first international school in Guangzhou, China this September.
