Open Enrollment Charter School

ILTexas is an open-enrollment charter school, which is a public school of choice. Admission and enrollment of students shall be open to persons who reside within the geographic boundaries stated in the school’s charter. In order for a student to be admitted into an open-enrollment charter school, the parent must follow the established guidelines for the admission and lottery process. Age eligibility for admission is (5) years of age on or before September 1.

School Admission

Parents must complete an online application form and submit it to the school prior to the deadline in order to be qualified to be selected in the Lottery. There will be times posted for applications to be received and deadlines to be met in order to qualify to participate in the Lottery.

The school will determine the number of spaces that are available in all grades within the school.

For rules regarding a student who withdraws from ILTexas, refer to guidelines later in this handbook on the Withdrawal and Re-admission section.

Enrollment

Following the Lottery drawing, the parents of the students who have been selected will be notified by email and telephone.

Each parent will be notified to complete the enrollment paperwork and to finalize enrollment at their accepted school.

Waiting List

For the upcoming school year, student’s names not drawn for enrollment during the Lottery process will be placed on the waiting list for the applicable grade. As places become available, a student will be contacted by e-mail and phone to finalize enrollment. a

The order of the waiting list is subject to change for the following reasons:

If an employee is hired after the lottery, their children would move up on the waiting list following children of employee’s already hired.

If after the lottery process a student is accepted and they have a sibling. Then the sibling would move up on the waiting list.

Currently Enrolled Students

Once students are admitted to the school, they are not required to participate in the lottery or admission process, but they will be asked to indicate their intent to return to the school by completing the re-enrollment process which usually occurs in early January.

A student who withdraws for any reason during the school year is only eligible for re-admission through the lottery. See also the Student Code of Conduct for additional requirements if a student withdraws prior to a pending disciplinary action.

Withdrawal Procedure

Parents of students withdrawing from ILTexas are required to meet with the Campus Principal or Designee before proceeding with the withdrawal process. A Withdrawal Form and a Transcript Request Form may be obtained from the Registrar’s office. Transcripts or student records will be sent via Trex within ten business days.

Readmission after Withdrawal

A student who has withdrawn pending disciplinary action or has been expelled from ILTexas may reapply and return subject to the following criteria:

  • A vacancy exists

  • The student must have an error free discipline record at their current school for at least one full semester.

  • The student must meet with the Re-Admission Committee (Principal, Counselor, Lead Teacher) to explain why he/she should be readmitted.

  • After the above steps have been completed, the student is eligible for the Lottery process to gain admission.

Readmission Committee

The Re-admission Committee will be comprised of the Principal or Assistant Principal, the counselor and the Lead Teacher of the grade level the student would be admitted. The Re-admission Committee may request current teacher recommendations for the student, relevant commentary from any counselor with whom the student may have worked while absent from ILTexas, as well as other documentation pertinent to the application. The decision of the Re-admission Committee regarding the return of the student is final. Any student who has been dismissed from ILTexas, and is allowed to return, will do so on 120 day probation. Any violations of the Parent and Student Handbook may result in the immediate dismissal of the student without possibility of readmission.

Additional Information on Admission Process may be obtained from the campus Principal’s Office.
